A private single family office in Charleston, SC is hiring a Controller to report to the CFO and coordinate all accounting functions for high-net-worth individuals and their family-owned businesses across multiple entities. A hands-on leadership role covering personal and business cash flow, financial reporting, tax-advisor coordination, staff management and real estate construction oversight.

This role manages the accounting and finance operations for a high-net-worth family and their business entities. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller coordinates all accounting functions, manages personal cash flow, investment accounts and business finances across multiple entities, and prepares financial statements for the families, trusts and businesses.

Key responsibilities - Report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and coordinate all accounting functions - Oversee operating business accounts receivable, accounts payable and general ledger entries - Manage personal cash flow, investment accounts and business operations across multiple entities - Prepare financial reporting and financial statements for families, trusts and businesses - Liaise with tax accounting firms for the various entity tax returns - Own month-end and year-end close of financial statements and account reconciliations - Maintain relationships with private bankers, financial and wealth advisors, lawyers, insurance professionals and tax accountants - Manage, motivate and lead multiple staff across multiple teams and contribute to management meetings - Oversee real estate construction project management (commercial and residential) - Maintain confidential financial and estate planning records; provide occasional after-hours support

Required qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance - 8+ years accounting experience - 5+ years managing, leading, training and motivating multiple staff - Proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel) and financial systems such as Sage Intacct, Addepar and Expensify - Solid understanding and working knowledge of GAAP and financial statements - Ultra-high attention to detail, problem solver and intellectually curious; ability to adhere to the highest level of confidentiality

Preferred qualifications - MBA and/or CPA - Tax experience and high-net-worth individual experience - Familiarity with complex estate and gift transfer strategies; ERP implementation experience
