AFO Capital, the family office for a Fort Worth-based family, is hiring an Assistant Controller to steward the integrity and accuracy of financial records across a multi-entity family office (individuals, trusts, an investment partnership, a private trust company and a private foundation). The role reports to the Controller and supports financial reporting, audit and tax processes.

Overview of the Company:

AFO Capital, Ltd. ("AFO") is the family office for a Fort Worth-based family which was founded in 2007 when the family's business was sold. The office is responsible for providing investment management, wealth management and other related services to the members of the family, their various investment partnerships and trusts, and their private foundation. Some of the key functions of the office include: investment and portfolio management; accounting, record keeping and financial reporting; coordination of tax planning and trust and estate planning; and coordination of charitable activities.

AFO's investment and portfolio management program consists of: (1) allocations to outside investment managers focused on fixed income, domestic equities, international equities, hedge funds and private equity funds; (2) direct investments in real estate; (3) selective direct investments in private companies and other private market opportunities; and (4) tactical allocation decisions at the asset class level. AFO takes a long-term, value-oriented approach in making all investment decisions as we believe this is the best way to manage capital intended to support current and future generations of the family for decades to come.

Overview of the Position:

AFO is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our accounting team and help steward the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of financial records across a multi-entity family office. This role is responsible for managing and monitoring financial record-keeping and accounting integrity for a broad group of family office clients, including individuals, trusts, investment partnerships, a private trust company, a private foundation, and other related entities (collectively, the "family office clients").

The Assistant Controller will support the Controller and CFO and serve as a central control point for financial data used across the organization and works closely with internal teams, including Investment, IT, and Legal, to ensure that all reporting - both internal and external - is based on complete and accurate records. This role supports financial reporting, audit, and tax processes and reports to the Controller.

Responsibilities:

Financial Record-Keeping & Data Integrity - Manage and monitor the integrity of financial records across all family office clients - Verify and maintain accurate accounting for financial activity of individuals and family entities, trusts and estates, investment partnership, private trust company, and private foundation - Ensure consistency and accuracy of financial data across systems and entity structures

Accounting Operations & Controls - Oversee transaction accuracy through our third-party accounting provider, classifications, and supporting documentation - Maintain and review balances, activity, and reconciliations - Support and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes - Maintain accounting controls and review procedures to ensure data reliability

Reporting & Downstream Outputs - Produce and maintain approved accounting records and datasets used for financial statements and historical investment reporting, audit workpapers, tax reporting, and regulatory or fiduciary reporting - Maintain custom benchmarks and benchmark changes used in reporting - Serve as a key point of contact for auditors and tax advisors

Cross-Functional Coordination - Partner with internal teams (including Investment, Legal, and Administration) that rely on accounting data - Provide validated and approved financial records for downstream reporting, dashboards, and analysis - Help define and maintain clear data handoffs and ownership between teams

Process Improvement & Documentation - Document accounting processes and control frameworks across family office entities - Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability - Support automation of recurring reconciliations and reporting inputs

Education and Experience Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA license - Five to ten years of experience in investment or fund accounting, family office, asset management, or similar environment - Strong understanding of investment accounting and performance concepts - Experience supporting audits and tax reporting - Exceptional attention to detail with a strong internal-control mindset - Ability to partner cross-functionally while maintaining accounting independence
