A newly established Operational Risk Manager seat supporting the Head of Operational Risk under the CRO. Business-facing mandate: identify and assess material operational risks, run incident and issue management, process/control reviews, remediation tracking, management risk reporting, and responsible AI enablement in the risk program. Suits 8–10 years' operational-risk experience with a mix of first- and second-line credibility. New York hybrid (4 days onsite).

SFM is a global asset manager and family office (~$28bn AUM) and the principal asset manager for the Open Society Foundations. The Operational Risk team establishes governance and a framework scaled to SFM's mandate, anchored in informed risk-taking; the team sits within the broader risk function reporting to the CRO.

Major responsibilities: - Risk identification & assessment: partner with the business; maintain the risk register; distinguish material risks from process weaknesses - Incident & issue management: own incident reporting end-to-end; challenge root causes; track themes - Risk reviews & process assessments: targeted reviews of processes and controls; practical commercial recommendations to the Head of Operational Risk - Remediation & enhancement tracking: ownership, target dates, status; challenge whether actions address root causes - Risk reporting: incidents, risk indicators, remediation status and trends for management - AI enablement in risk management: identify and help implement responsible AI use with documentation and governance - Stakeholder engagement: influence without formal authority; reinforce a risk-aware culture - Background check program: support administration and oversight
