From prompt engineering to context engineering

The better you get at AI, the less it turns out to be about the perfect prompt. It is about context, plus early signs of "vibe coding" walking into the enterprise, and the 2025 Security & Risk Report.

Writing from the Cotswolds, a few cooler days with family as part of the great "coolcation" migration north. The country air does its work on a tired head, and I have a hunch the appetite for properly disconnected time will only grow the more capable these tools get. The scarcer thing is usually the more valuable one.

The perfect prompt is a trap

Here is the quiet plot twist of the year. The better you get at AI, the less any of it is about crafting the perfect prompt.

The work moves to context. You put the model inside your workflows, your team structure, the way your office actually thinks and decides, so it understands what matters before you ask it anything. Get the context right and the model needs barely any instruction. The effort shifts from execution to design, which is a more interesting place for it to sit.

Vibe coding grows up

We are also picking up early signals of "vibe coding" crossing into the enterprise. These are tools that read your goals, your tone, your intent, without you spelling every step out. Call it a first sighting of AI that helps lead rather than just execute, and a preview of agentic workflows landing in sales, operations and governance.

The knowledge you can't reach yet

And yet most of what an office knows is still out of the model's reach. It can feel like we run everything through a chatbot, but these tools touch only a thin slice of what we actually search for day to day. The rest sits in inboxes, in someone's head, in a folder named "final_v3". Structuring that is where the next platforms win, and where a family office can quietly build an edge nobody sees coming.

One more thing worth flagging: we have just released the 2025 Security & Risk Report, with input from a range of leading experts. Our full global team gathers in Copenhagen this August, ahead of a run of announcements we are almost ready to share.
