Writing after a week in New York for Tech Week, where I put a question to more than fifty family office professionals and watched the room go quiet. The talk was titled AI Simplified: Empowering Family Offices in the Digital Age. The line that landed was simpler than the title. This is not a productivity tweak. It is a change in what the work is.
AI has stopped being a thing you go and use. In communications, reporting, modelling and admin, it is already doing up to 80% of the job. Not in ten years. Not after the next funding cycle. Now.
The room in New York
What made the session work was not the slides. It was watching principals do the arithmetic in real time on their own offices, running the 80% number against their reporting cycle, their diligence process, the three things that quietly eat every Tuesday.
Here is what we left them with.
Agentic tools are replacing tasks, not teams. From drafting emails and building dashboards through to scheduling and code, the machine now finishes a large slice of many workflows, and it does the boring middle first.
Prompts and interfaces are where the skill now lives. Directors prompt actors, editors prompt writers, and now anyone can prompt a model through the right interface. The craft moved up a level.
Workflows are replacing processes. The static procedure, the one written in a binder nobody opens, is being redrawn as something that adapts while it runs.
Voice is becoming the main way in. Agents pull data, take an action, and hold a conversation with context, all through speech.
No-code is turning into AI-code. A sentence now does what a script used to, which means the person who understands the problem can build the fix without waiting for the person who understands the syntax.
And the plumbing is closer to ready than most assume. OCR, document AI and open banking feeds mean even a PDF is now structured data, which quietly removes one of the oldest excuses for not starting.
The uncomfortable question
So here is the one we actually came to ask. When 80% of your work is handled by agentic tools, what do you do with the 20% that is left, and is it the 20% you would have chosen?
If you would like a look at the deck, reach out, and we will walk your office through it one to one.
