About The Job

Job Summary:

  • Seeking a self-directed Accountant with a strong work ethic and high standards for excellence to work in our Family Office.
  • The Accountant will prepare accounting records and financial statements for various corporations, partnerships, trusts, and other entities.
  • The Accountant will also assist with the preparation of work papers for tax returns.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement a new accounting system, including the creation of a standardized chart of accounts for 60+ entities, and integration of data from the investment reporting system.
  • Maintain a general ledger system, including a chart of accounts, and prepare monthly closings including journal entries and financial statements.
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly.
  • Review of outside investment statements to internal accounting records to ensure accuracy.
  • Prepare books and other supporting schedules for tax returns and other tax-related processes
  • Maintain the foundation’s schedule of grants and future commitments
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date files for each entity on the internal network.
  • Utilize an investment reporting system to track and gather Schedules K-1 from investments to be used for tax return preparation.
  • Periodically participate in financial review meetings with Family Office clients and assist with preparing meeting materials.
  • Assist Controller with cash management including tracking investment capital calls and distributions.
  • Prepare ad hoc reports and analyses as requested by executive management including other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, CPA preferred but not a prerequisite.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience at a small company or in a CPA or similar firm.
  • Some tax experience preferred
  • Experience working in a diversified environment, with multiple investment types and different ownership structures preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with a willingness to improve processes and internal control.
  • Must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organized with strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Reputation of exemplifying the highest standards of integrity, honesty, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Strong technology skills preferred with proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Sage (or another similar comprehensive accounting system).
