Company Overview:

  • Petrus Trust Company, LTA (“Petrus”), serves as a single-family office for a prominent family in Dallas.
  • The office provides accounting, bill pay, payroll, tax, investment management, and other services.

Position Summary:

  • Petrus is hiring a Family Office Accountant to join its growing team.
  • The Family Office Accountant will be responsible for performing investment and operating accounting for various entities (e.g., investment partnerships, family trusts, individuals, etc.).
  • Responsibilities include recording journal entries, recording partner capital activity, performing reconciliations, inputting investment valuations, and preparing financial statements.
  • The Family Office Accountant will ensure financial records, financial statements, and documentation comply with professional standards and U.S. GAAP.
  • This role is blended with the candidate working with the investment accounting and services accounting teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries related to investment and operating activities for various entities
  • Prepare journal entries related to partner capital activity in investment partnerships
  • Reconcile cash, holdings, and investment transactions for investment partnerships
  • Input and document valuations of the outside fund and private equity investments and fixed-income securities
  • Reconcile allocation of P&L and management and performance fees among partners in investment partnerships
  • Refine financial statement preparation and tie-out processes
  • Document various accounting processes (e.g., investment valuations, technical accounting matters, reporting tools, accounting systems, internal controls, etc.)
  • Design and/or modify recurring financial statements and other reports
  • Assist with annual financial statement audits and agreed-upon procedure

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with SS&C Advent Geneva, SEI Archway accounting software, and Tableau a plus

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field required
  • CPA eligible required/CPA license preferred
  • Minimum of two years of accounting or finance experience required
  • Minimum of one year of public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with the investment management industry preferred
