Managing Director – Family Office

The Client
The founders of a diversified conglomerate business are establishing a multi-family office to manage their investments, assets, philanthropic initiatives, and family affairs. Rooted in socially conscious business practices and a love of the outdoors, the family seeks to extend its reach while ensuring smooth governance, ethical stewardship, and long-term sustainability of both commercial and philanthropic ventures.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Managing Director to establish and lead the family office. This individual will oversee investments, properties, trusts, and other family interests, while also shaping strategy, building operational infrastructure, and managing relationships with external advisors. The role requires a trusted professional of the highest integrity, with the ability to manage complex financial, personal, and philanthropic affairs discreetly and effectively.

The Position

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the family office’s strategic investment and operational plan.

  • Oversee all family assets, including investment accounts, properties, trusts, and commercial ventures.

  • Lead the development and growth of the family office infrastructure.

  • Ensure financial and operating environments align with the family’s ethical standards and core values.

  • Supervise preparation of financial statements, tax returns, and portfolio reports.

  • Liaise with lawyers, trustees, accountants, brokers, and other advisors to execute family strategies and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.

  • Manage the family’s philanthropic and activism initiatives.

  • Conduct research and oversee ad hoc projects for the principals.

  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality in all aspects of family and business affairs.

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within a family office or equivalent environment.

  • Demonstrated expertise in investments, real estate, trusts, tax, and financial management.

  • Undergraduate degree required; CPA designation or MBA strongly preferred.

  • Prior exposure to philanthropic and activism strategies a plus.
