Position Description:
- Our company is seeking a senior accounting professional to take ownership of our tax reporting processes and expand into other high-level accounting functions.
- This is a critical role within our finance department, where you will oversee tax reporting, financial analysis, and budgeting processes for our commercial property portfolio.
- We’re looking for someone ready to manage complex financial projects and collaborate with our team to drive impactful process improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Tax Reporting and Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation and submission of all tax-related documents to our accounting firm, ensuring timely and accurate filing in collaboration with external tax advisors, including:
- G/L, financial reporting, fixed assets, and all aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
- Reconciling all cash and brokerage accounts, mortgage notes, form 1099s received, intercompany loans, and fixed asset schedules.
- Preparation of various form 1099s (Interest / Rents / Misc)
- Coordinate annual tax returns and liaise with external CPA firms on various accounting issues.
- Manage the calculation and filing of Oregon Corporate Activity Taxes (CAT) and other relevant taxes, including the production of allocation schedules.
- Ensure compliance with newer tax regulations, such as Metro Supportive Housing Services (SHS).
- Financial Analysis and Reporting:
- Conduct financial analysis to explain year-over-year differences and identify significant income or expense variations.
- Prepare and analyze monthly cash position reports, tracking capital spending and obligations.
- Develop quarterly distribution reports and coordinate approved distributions.
- Produce annual market value statements and property-level balance sheets, providing financial insights for individual properties.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Manage the creation of annual property budgets, working closely with Property Managers and Operations.
- Manage the creation of quarterly forecasts, ensuring accurate updates and variance analysis based on current-year data.
- Develop and implement automated workflows and financial analyses to improve budget accuracy and efficiency.
- Loan and Banking Management:
- Maintain and update a comprehensive master list of notes payable, working to optimize loan payments and reduce financial complexity.
- Assist with mortgage loans and banking applications, including the preparation of pro forma reports, financial statements, and lender communications.
- Support the transfer of fixed asset data into Yardi for enhanced tracking and reporting.
- Process Improvement and Collaboration:
- Streamline and digitize accounting processes, improving efficiency and accuracy across the department.
- Collaborate with the finance team to identify and implement improvements in reporting workflows and compliance.
- Occasionally, provide an analysis of prospective tenant financial statements and assist with due diligence processes.
- Assist owners and other family members with various accounting needs.
Skills, Competencies, and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA license required.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with a strong preference for candidates with commercial real estate and tax preparation experience.
- Proficiency with Yardi and general familiarity with QuickBooks is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in all financial processes.
- General understanding of partnership, trust, and individual taxation — past estate planning exposure is a plus.
- Creative thinker with strong intellect who possesses good communication skills and can make effective decisions.
